Many great composers have written works dedicated to the Illinois Bands program including the legendary figures of Karl King, Harry Alford, and John Philip Sousa. As a composer working as a teaching assistant with the Marching Illini, I developed a close relationship with the music these titans of the Band medium gifted to our program and the lyalty to the tradition of excellence their works help to instill. I hoped one day to contribute something to that legacy. It was fortuitous that my attendance at Illinois overlapped with the centennial of the dedication of our football grounds. Memorial Stadium was named to remeber the Illinois Students who gave their lives serving in World War I. The stadium hosts an iconic brick facade accompanied by 200 doric pillars inscribed with the names of these men and women. This fanfare is dedicated to those Illini in rememberance of their selflessness, nobility, and sacrifce.
